San Antonio Nov. 3

View Fall 2011 Great Adventure in a larger map

On our way to San Antonio we stayed in a small town called Junction.  The RV park was six miles out of town and was situated on an old Pecan Nut orchard.  That evening a few white tail deer came by to much on acorns and pecan nuts.  Deer hunting season starts this Saturday. Too bad I won't be in town.

Where is grandpa?
Hint:   It is the most famous place in the whole state of Texas.
Hint:  A battle was fought here between Texans and the Mexican Army
Hint:  Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William Travis fought and died in this battle

This battle in February 1836 was fought at the ALAMO

Looking through an arch at the original water well under the old tree in the mission court yard.

All of the defenders of the Alamo were killed (except the women and children) and their bodies were burned. The marble crypt is supposed to contain the ashes of those bodies including Davy Crockett,  Jim Bowie and William Travis.  These men are regarded as great heroes in Texas.

After we visited the Alamo we walked along the Pecos river area which has dozens of restaurants.
Grandma looks happy......Good food is coming.
